The MRI Course
MRI Technology is a high-tech health services career for students who are interested in providing direct patient care and working as part of a healthcare team. Although no prior experience is necessary to apply for this program, students must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills, honesty, dependability and adaptability. The MRI technology program develops competence in the knowledge and skills required for magnetic resonance imaging. The integrated curriculum, designed to be completed in two years on a full-time basis, includes both didactic and clinical education components. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program is one of the most rapidly developing diagnostic imaging modalities. The MRI program is a 1570-hour program comprised of two modules and an externship. The first two modules are taken on site and include the study of human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, sectional anatomy, physics, MR physics, MR instrumentation and case studies. The last module is a 1000 hour externship completed at one of our clinical affiliated sites. Upon successful completion of the program student will receive a certificate of completion and a Diploma. This program complies with the minimum standards set forth by American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) and American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT). Upon completion of the program, students may qualify to sit for the registry examination. Please contact ARMRIT at Phone : |
A nationwide shortage of healthcare workers is expected to continue through at least 2020. MRI technology program graduates can work in rural or urban areas in varied settings, including hospitals, doctors’ offices, and free-standing imaging clinics. Some graduates may choose employment as a contract or travel technologist, and work at various locations throughout the world. The AUMT MRI Technology Program Faculty encourages graduates to practice the concept of life long learning by continuing their education, whether it be in a formal or informal manner. Graduates have opportunities for additional on-the-job training in other modalities such as CT, Ultrasound, and Special Procedures. |
